For more information on the single dates please check the Open Registrations Calendar available for all types of TOLCs at the page: https://tolc.cisiaonline.it/calendario.php

2) I lost my credentials to access the TOLC Student Area.
If you do not remember your credentials to access the TOLC Area you can easily retrieve them by entering the email with which you registered to the TOLC Area and your fiscal code on the following retrieval page: https://tolc.cisiaonline.it/studenti_tolc/pwd_recovery_tolc.php
If during registration to the TOLC Area you entered an incorrect email or if your profile is inactive you can ask for assistance at our Helpdesk: http://helpdesk.cisiaonline.it/

3) Can I enrol in more than one TOLC of the same type at the same time?
No. It is not possible to book more than one TOLC of the same type at the same time. You can book another TOLC of the same type only the day after you attended the TOLC to which you had already enrolled.

4) I paid with the MAV but haven’t received acknowledgement yet.
When making the payment with a MAV it takes up to 3 working days (72 hours) to receive the automatic acknowledgement of payment. These are the time requirements set by the banks to acknowledge payment.

5) I am a foreign student and I do not have a fiscal code. What can I do?
If you are a foreign student and you do not have a fiscal code issued by the Tax Authority you should indicate FOREIGN COUNTRY as place of birth and mark “I do not have a fiscal code” in the registration form in the TOLC Student area. Before enrolling in the English TOLC, we recommend you contact the Foreign students office at the University in which you plan to enrol. If instead you have entered an incorrect fiscal code or it was provided to you after the registration to the TOLC Area, contact us on helpdesk.cisiaonline.it  and we will help you.

6) I was not able to complete payment with credit card. Why?
Usually the reason credit card payments are not finalised is because the credit card used is not enabled for online payments that use the new 3D security protocols. For the VISA circuit you must register to the protection program “Verified by Visa”, while for the MasterCard circuit you must register to the program “Securcode”. Even pre-paid cards (such as PostePay) need a protection code activation: https://www.poste.it/sicurezza-web-postepay.html

7) I am not able to access the TOLC Student Area.
To access the TOLC Student Area please log in on this page:
http://tolc.cisiaonline.it/studenti_tolc/login_studente_tolc.php which should not be confused with the login area for Training for the Test Area: http://allenamento.cisiaonline.it/utenti_esterni/login_studente.php
The credentials to access the TOLC Student Area are always different from those to access the Training for the Test area, since the two areas are different and have two different methods to access and register.
If you have lost your access credentials you can retrieve them through this retrieval form:
https://tolc.cisiaonline.it/studenti_tolc/pwd_recovery_tolc.php.  If you continue to experience problems accessing please contact our Helpdesk: http://helpdesk.cisiaonline.it/.

8) What does “local limited access” mean?
The university courses with limited access are those to which you can enrol only after you pass a selection. There are nationwide university courses with limited access (such as the university courses in Architecture, Medicine, Dentistry and other  health-care profession courses) for which the admission tests are organised directly by MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research) and take place on the same day across the nation; There are other university courses that are locally limited for which each University independently decides to enrol a limited number of students. The enrolment procedure can be found in the enrolment instructions on the university websites.

9) What does TOLC mean?
The acronym stands for Test On Line CISIA. CISIA is a public consortium to which various Italian universities participate. CISIA has been organising for years on behalf of the participating centres tests on paper and online. The Test On Line CISIA is an orientation and evaluation test that measures the initial skills of students who plan to enrol in a university course and which can be used by the participating centres also to select candidates.

10) How many types of TOLCs are there?
In 2019 there will be eight types of TOLCs:

  • TOLC-I (for courses in engineering and other technical and scientific courses)
  • English TOLC-I (for courses in engineering and other technical and scientific courses)
  • TOLC-E (for courses in economics, statistics and social sciences)
  • English TOLC-E (for courses in economics, statistics and social sciences)
  • TOLC-F (for courses in pharmaceutics, chemistry and pharmaceutic technology, as well as other technical and scientific courses, and physical education sciences),
  • TOLC -B (for courses in the biology area and life sciences),
  • TOLC–S (for other courses in the scientific area such as mathematics, IT, chemistry, physics, geology, natural sciences).
  • TOLC-SU (for courses in Humanities)

These are differently structured with regard to number, type and difficulty of the questions.

Every TOLC test has an English section, consting of 30 more questions and 15 minutes as additional time.
English TOLC-I and English TOLC-E consist of questions in English language:

11) I want to enrol in the Polimi. Can I take the TOLC-I?
The Politecnico di Milano acknowledges the TOLC-I (in Italian) as a substitute of the TOL test. For this centre, the TOLC-I can be used for pre-enrolment and the score obtained with the TOLC-I corresponds to a score greater or equal to 60 from the TOL. To convert the TOLC-I score into TOL score you can use the TOLC-I converter. You can take the TOLC-I in the sessions from February to July once a month (calendar month) in one of the universities that participate in the project. For further information please read the section on TOLC-I on the website POLIORIENTAMI, in which you can also consult the call for entrance for the university course that you are interested in.

12) How much does the TOLC cost?
All types of TOLCs cost 30.00 Euro. You can pay online with credit card or through a bank payment slip called MAV.

13) How often can I take a TOLC?
You can take a TOLC only once a month (calendar month) regardless of the centre in which you are taking the test. Keeping to these restrictions a student can take the TOLC in any session and in any centre he wants during the period in which the TOLC is administered. It is not possible to be enrolled at the same time in more than one TOLC of the same type; therefore, to make a new enrolment you should wait until the day after the TOLC you had previously booked. Instead, you can enrol at the same time in more than one different type of TOLC.

14) Where can I take a TOLC?
You can take a TOLC in any participating centre. At the following links you can consult the participating centres for 2019:

English TOLC-E http://www.cisiaonline.it/area-tematica-tolc-cisia/english-tolc/
Please note that you can take the TOLC in any university centre because the results obtained are valid for enrolment in all university courses that have the same type of test.

15) I cannot find the name of my secondary school. I cannot complete the registration. What should I do?
When you are in the window “Select the secondary school attended” select the Region correctly and for Commune select OTHER from the menu. Continue by selecting OTHER from the menu for type of course and OTHER for the name of the secondary school.

16) I graduated/am graduating from a secondary school in a foreign country. Can I register to the TOLC?
Certainly. The TOLC can be taken at an Italian university centre even if you are attending or have attended a secondary school in a foreign country. During registration select “FOREIGN COUNTRY” in the field Select secondary school attended.

17) How can I pay for the TOLC?
Payment for enrolling in a TOLC can be made with credit card or through a MAV bank payment slip that is created in your Student Area once you have enrolled in the TOLC. The MAV payment slip can be paid at any bank, tobaccanist’s that has this service or with home banking. If you choose to pay with credit card please note that your credit card should be enabled for online payments.

18) What’s the payment and enrolment receipt for?
Once you have successfully finalised the payment, either with credit card or with MAV, you will be able to print the payment and enrolment receipt from the TOLC Student Area. This receipt allows you to take the test and should be retained and exhibited to access the test room the day of the test. Furthermore, the receipt reports the time you can enter the test room (test room entrance time) and the address of the centre where the test is administered (“test location” and “test room”).

19) I could not finalise the enrolment in the TOLC because I encountered some problems when paying with the credit card. Now I am not able to enrol anymore. What can I do?
In these cases you should wait 30 minutes. In fact to enrol again in a TOLC you have to wait for the time out of the application that manages the credit cards. Return to your TOLC Student Area after 30 minutes and you should be able to enrol again. Please remember that to pay with a credit card, the credit card should be enabled for online 3D payments.  If it isn’t you can choose to make the payment with the MAV.

20) While taking the TOLC can I take a break?
The decision to grant breaks is made by the centre participating in the TOLC. In case a break is granted it can last at most 10 minutes and can take place between the end of a section and the beginning of the next one.

21) If I am not able to take the test will I be reimbursed?
How to register and pay is regulated by Article 4 of the Regulation and the letters a), b) and c)  describe the cases of absence. The letter a) states that the registration fee is not reimbursable, the letter b) states that if students should be absent at the test for which they had enrolled and paid, they can enrol for a new date even in a different centre using the fee previously paid. The reutilisation of the fee already payed is possible only during the same calendar year. The payments unused by the end of the calendar year are not useable in the following years and cannot be reimbursed by CISIA. Lastly, letter c) states that, should students after further registration to a TOLC using a previous payment be absent again, they shall not be able to use that payment again.

22) How long will I have the credit in case of first absence from test in which I had enrolled?
In case you miss a TOLC test you can enrol again in a same type of TOLC using the payment previously made only for another TOLC session in any centre participating in the TOLC. To use the credit you need to wait until the following day from the TOLC you had previously booked. Please note that the credit will expire after a year from the date the test was created.

23) Can I ask a university that does not participate in the TOLC to validate my TOLC test?
The TOLC results are valid for the centres that participate in the project. CISIA guarantees that the results can be used in any centre participating in the TOLC. The centres that do not participate in the TOLC may accept the results but CISIA does not have this information and cannot guarantee this.

24) Can I also take the paper test once I have taken the TOLC?
You should ask this at the centre where you plan to take the test on paper. In fact the TOLC can be used by the centres as an ahead of time test therefore if the results obtained with the TOLC are suitable for enrolment in that university it would probably be not necessary to take the Test in paper. Furthermore, there are some centres that do not administer the test in paper but make use only of the TOLC.
